VALENTINES DAY MAKE-UP INSPO

So, ladies, good ol’ V-day is just around the corner! In lieu of the most romantic day of the year, I’ve posted a few makeup looks to rock on this holiday.  Hope you feel inspired to try one out!

Image

This soft eye paired with bold eyebrows and flirtatious lashes will grab anyone’s attention.  To finish off this look, use a soft nude or blush pink colored lipstick.

* Hot Tip: Dab on a bit of highlighter (or a pearly-white eyeshadow) on your Cupids Bow to make your lips appear fuller!

Shimmery copper eyeshadow will enhance anyone’s peepers! Blend this hot hue of shadow along the eyelid and bottom of your eye to achieve this sultry look.  Enhance your cheekbones with a soft peach colored blush – don’t forget a nude lip!

Lily Collins proves that Vampy Lips are alluring and sexy.  To achieve this trendy look, use a lip stain in a dark, berry hue.  Keep eyes natural with brows tamed.  Don’t forget to layer on that mascara!

Perfect Eyebrows? That’s Simple!

Eyebrows can dramatically change your face – full, tamed eyebrows create a youthful appearance while sparse, thin ‘brows can age any woman. I, myself, am obsessed with perfect eyebrows.  Even when I leave my house without makeup, I at least make sure my eyebrows are tamed.

Ladies, clear mascara is your best friend.  It’s inexpensive & it does wonders for your eyebrows! Just brush them with this magic tube (to your desired shape) and voila – they’re tamed all day long. Check out some more tips below on how to achieve a perfect eyebrow.

First and foremost, eyebrows must begin, end and arch in a specific place.  Use this as a guide next time you tweeze.

  •  A)  This is where your eyebrow should begin ( at the outer edge of your nostril ). If you need to, use a pencil or a straight object to assist you with accuracy.
  •  B) Your arch should begin and the outer edge of your pupil.  Again, use a pencil as an aid – your starting point remains the outer edge of the nostril.
  •  C) FInally, move your pencil to the outer edge of your eye from the starting point.  Your eyebrow should end at this spot.

Now, once you’ve perfectly aligned your ‘brows, here’s how to finish them off:

  • Brush your eyebrows upwards (I do this with Maybelline clear mascara) and cut any long hairs with a small scissor.
  • Fill them in.  I use powder when filling in my eyebrows; they tend to create a more natural look (My favorite is the  Anastasia Brow Powder Duo ).  Use a darker shade for the arch area and the lighter shade for the rest of the brow with a thin, angled brush.  With upward strokes, lightly create the eyebrow to your liking – you’re the artist! But please, don’t get too ‘brow happy and overdo it :)
  • Lastly (and optional), brush your eyebrows one more time to the desired shape.

I hope this helps! I know for some women, maintaining their eyebrows can be a tedious, difficult process so I want to know: Do you ladies find it difficult to keep up with a “Perfect Eyebrow”?

Top 5 Makeup Mishaps

1.  Not Blending Enough

I cannot stress this enough: Blending is the KEY to a flawless look! If eyeshadow, blush, or foundation is not blended enough, it creates the illusion that you’re wearing more makeup than you really are.  The solution to this makeup mishap is to invest in some good brushes – it’s a well worth expense.  A good set of brushes makes  a huge difference when applying makeup!

2. Over plucked brows

Brows that are too thin are universally unflattering.  If your brows are too sparse, let them grown in and resist the temptation of tweezing stray hairs.  In the meantime, fake a bolder brow with natural looking eyebrow powder (Anastasia Brow Powder Duo is my go-to brow filler).

3. Lip Color that is too dark

Too dark lip hues can look extremely aging.  When lining lips, avoid using a dark liner.  Always use a lip liner shade that match the color of your natural pucker.  If you must wear a dark hue, opt with the glossed or sheer version of this color.

4. Mismatched Foundation

This is the most common makeup crime committed by women! Remember that foundation must be changed with seasons.  The same foundation you wore in July will not work for you in January.  Also, be aware of foundations that tend to oxidize (turns orange) as it interacts with the oils on your skin.

5.  Overbronzing

A bronzer overload can make skin look too orange, shimmery, or dirty.  I tend to favor matte bronzer over shimmers & remember that just like your foundation shade, your bronzer should change throughout seasons.

J.Lo’s sultry makeup look – a step by step guide!

Spotted earlier this month at an American Idol  finalist party, Jennifer Lopez looked radiant.  She wore a dramatic eye with a perfect nude lip and glowing skin.  Below are essential tips for re-creating this look.

  • Jennifer’s complexion always radiates a “glow”.  Get your skin glowing with with Laura Mercier’s Silk Creme Foundation. Apply only in the areas needed, but pay particular attention underneath your eyes and around your nose.
  • Dust a light brown eyeshadow into your eyesockets, blending well to create depth.
  • Sweep a silver eyeshadow – like Mac’s eyeshadow in Crystal Avalanche – over the lids, taking extra time to work it into the inner corners to make your eyes pop.
  • Line the eyes for dramatic definition. Use a kohl pencil on the inner rims of your eyes – Smashbox’s Limitless eyeliner in Onyx has been recommended for this look.
  • A nude lipstick will make your lips look more plump. Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in Misia will do just the trick for a perfect pout.
  • Finally, apply a pair of false eyelashes to get a wide-eyed glamourous look.

Corrector, Primer, and SPF – all in one bottle!

Product: Physicians Formula Talc-Free Mineral Correcting Primer.

What it does: With one simple application, this primer (with SPF15!) color corrects, smoothes out texture, and brightens skin.  So far, I’ve only experimented with the green shade, which down redness.  It comes in two other shades: nude & pink (which promise to highlight & brightens the complexion). This primer/corrector is SO lightweight, yet blends in perfectly.  During the day, I wear this product alone with a sweep of powder on top!

Where to buy: At $10.95, this primer can be purchased at any local drugstore.

Directions: For the first application, allow 10-15 twists for product to flow through the applicator. After first use, twist 1-2 times for the perfect dose. Using the brush, apply to the center of the face, sweeping outward in upward movements. Gently use fingertips to blend into skin. Use alone or under makeup.

Added Bonus: For gals with sensitive skin like myself, this tube of wonder is  Hypoallergenic. Fragrance free. Paraben free. Non-Comedogenic. Oil Free. Dermatologist approved.
